BOSTON — Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney says helping fellow Republican Scott Brown win a Senate seat is why he formed his “Free and Strong America” political action committee.

In an e-mail solicitation to supporters Wednesday, Romney said “all of us are still basking” in Brown’s achievement.

The committee gave $4,500 to Brown in late September, and then Romney solicited other donations for the state senator.

Romney says in the coming months, he will be campaigning on behalf of other Republican candidates, appearing in media interviews, raising funds, writing, blogging and “doing everything else I can imagine to stand up for what we believe.”

The 2009 GOP presidential candidate — and likely 2012 contender — is also releasing a book next month.

Brown upset Democrat Martha Coakley to claim the seat formerly held by the late Sen. Edward Kennedy.
